As a friend of mine once told me, which I have repeated ever since, "Some people are the pineapples, and some people are the Jello." I'm a Jello. My husband is a pineapple. Spending eight years with a pineapple person has resulted in my views on certain things, mostly things on which I had no firm opinions in the first place, molding to conform to his. It is hard to stand your ground when, (1) you don't really care in the first place and (2) you are faced with that much enthusiasm!
So, the Foo Fighters are John's favorite band, and through the years I have watched myself go from an apathetic observer to a full-blown fangirl (my policies toward the Yankees have evolved similarly). He always wants to see the Foo Fighters' live shows when they come to town, and I'm so glad that I overcame my initial NO TOO LOUD TOO MUCH SCREAMING reaction and went along when we first went together a few years ago (Sunday's was the second show of theirs I've seen). I'm a convert. Now I would never miss a Foo Fighters tour.
The Foo Fighters are a great live rock band (no, not as good as Wilco), and Dave Grohl is incredible. As Mike Ness of Social Distortion said during his band's opening set on Sunday, "Foo Fighters don't f*ck around." They rocked for three hours, past midnight, and played all the old favorites, together with some of their newer stuff. It was a late night, but the show was absolutely worth the residual exhaustion I've been dealing with all week.
Oh, and they brought out special guest Joan Jett (whoa!) for an amazing rendition of "Bad Reputation."
